The words above are the words of people of God who have been afflicted, distressed, wounded, troubled and badly affected by the hand of God (not the devil); and, being brought thereby to a sense of their sins and transgressions by acknowledging them, and seeking the Lord for pardon and forgiveness, and encourage one another to do so also.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” 2 Chron. 7:14.
Such people of God used to be fervent folks but have been caught up in the web of so called “making a living but not standing on the path of holiness and righteousness unto our God”. They were spiritually asleep and not aware when lust, greed, love of money, sheer compromise and wrong doing set in subtlety. Both believers and ministers were no more fervent in spirit as before because they have left the good old path and started to walk on the fence and now imbibing “the watered down gospel” and compromising their faith.
“This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask which paths are the old, reliable paths. Ask which way leads to blessings. Live that way, and find a resting place for yourselves. But you said that you wouldn’t live that way” Jer. 6:16 GW
People do not have eternity in view any longer because their consciences have been seared like a hot iron or they developed evil conscience. Believe it or not, we will all die one day and will eventually have to appear before the throne of Grace to answer for the works we did on earth.
