Dominion in its simplest form is power, authority or control over something or someone. It is the ability to request or command and expects a fulfillment of that appeal. To have dominion is to rule, to be in charge. Dominion is a command or authoritative order. The above verse clearly teaches that dominion has been given over the animals and the earth, which mankind has clearly fulfilled and continues to fulfill [Ps. 8:6-9].
The Scriptures do teach that Christ has dominion over all mankind [Jude 25], and that believers will reign and rule with Him [Rev. 5:10]. Dominion is all about knowing who you are in Christ and understanding that in you, through Him is the power to lay hold onto the promises of God and possess them until the day of Christ. Dominion make you understand that you can do what God said you can do, have what God said that you can have and be what God said you can be regardless to what things looks like, sounds or appear like. We are to have both physical dominion and spiritual one. God never intended for His people to live in defeat. He destined you to rule.
Except we first take dominion over ourselves, over habits and desires and unbridled lusts and passions that are in us we can never expect to have dominion over anything else! We must crucify, dominate and control flesh and make it bow to the dictates of God else it will hinder the plans and purpose of God.
