When Jesus walked this earth, He had twelve disciples; two were brothers – James and John who were nicknamed “sons of thunder” because of their violent temper. As a matter of fact they wanted to call down fire to consume those who spoke against the Lord Jesus before Christ reprimanded them.
He made them to understand that the spirit in them is not meant for destruction but for restoration. Years later when they became Apostles, John had gone through a transformation or an alteration process and he became “the apostle of love”. What a spiritual renovation from the “son of thunder” to an “apostle of love”!
It was obvious that the Lord Jesus helped in recreating or remolding John’s character and nature until the violent spirit disappeared and love took its place. One critical thing here to note is the tenderness and forbearance of the Lord in helping John until positive change was inevitable. With the humility, and gentleness of the Master, John’s heart was drawn to Christ and he lost sight of self because of his love for Jesus and His Kingdom.
Of course, Jesus lived an exemplary lifestyle that is worthy of emulating. You will see tenderness, meekness, gentleness, patience and loving kindness in the daily life and routine of Jesus Christ.
