The object of all God’s promises in all the dispensations was to bring fallen man back to the image of God, which he had lost in the Garden of Eden. This, indeed, is the sum and substance of the faith of Christians as we are brought from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. We have partaken of an earthly, sensual, and devilish nature; the design of God through Christ is to remove us from there, and to make us partakers of His Divine nature; and save us from all the corruption in principle and fact which is in the world; the source of which is lust, irregular, unreasonable, immoderate, wickedness and impure desires, greed and covetousness; desire to have, to do, to grab, and to be, what God has prohibited, and what would be harmful and destructive to us if the desires were granted.
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” Heb. 2:14-15
To be a partaker of Christ’s divine nature means that the characteristics of God’s nature become our own through His creative work in us! Jesus was divine but He put on human nature so He can save us. Jesus Christ is the one who imparts the divine nature upon us so we can become supernatural in nature. He does this through the ministry of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit Christ, He was made sin so that we can be made the righteousness of God in Him.
Our deliverance began with the forgiveness of sin and shedding His precious blood on the Cross on our behalf [1 Peter 1:19]. His sacrifice opened the door for an entirely different kind of life. He freed us from the guilt of sin and gave us the power over sin through the Holy Spirit.
